National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), ISRO, Dept. of Space, Govt. of India, in collaboration with partner institutions prepared ground water prospects map using remote sensing and GIS technology under Rajiv Gandhi National Drinking Water Mission (RGNDWM) project. The project was sponsored by the Department of Drinking Water Supply (DDWS), Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), GoI.
These maps are being used by the concerned state government departments for locating drinking water sources, particularly for NC/PC habitations, and also for identifying suitable sites for constructing recharge structures to improve the sustainability of the drinking water sources. It is also reported that a number of recharge structures are being constructed successfully resulting in increase of water table in the area.
Re-projection of the individual map sheets to SoI Standard State Grid,Standardization of Lithology- Landforms map for the State andThematic edge- matching.
Summary Of Work
The database provided by the NRSC was in different projections. The same was re-projected on to the individual map sheets of 1:50000 scale standard state TM grid provided by NRSC. Standardization of lithology-landforms (alpha-numeric codes) for the state was completed. The edge matching of thematic maps and state seamless digital data creation has been carried out.
All the 16 layers such as Admin, Drainl, Drainp, Irrg-a, Rail, Road, Rain, Wells, Spring, WRDPP, Struc1, Struc2, Canal, Lithgeom, Setlp etc pertaining to Karnataka state (318 toposheets) has been edge matched and seamless mosaic of the state is generated in coverage (using ArcInfo workstation Module) and in shape file formats.
The digital data was clipped district wise and district wise MXD created using standard Symbology supplied by the NRSC. All the data pertaining to 30 districts of the state was exported to jpg and pdf formats. All the re-projected data of the state has been submitted to the National Remote Sensing Centre, Hyderabad.
