Support for Improved Programme Integration in Rain fed Areas of Karnataka Watershed Development Project (Sujala – III)

SujalaThe Government of Karnataka, Govt. of India and the World Bank together have designed a new watershed development model to strengthen the Integrated Watershed Management Programme (IWMP) and its convergence with other developmental programmes.  Such a project would contribute to sustainable improvements in productivity and livelihood of small and marginal farmers in rain-fed areas.

Accordingly, the Government of Karnataka is implementing the World Bank assisted Karnataka Watershed Development Project-II (KWDP-II Sujala III) project over a period of six years from 2013 to 2019 in eleven districts of Bidar, Gulbarga, Yadgir, Koppal, Gadag, Davanagere, Chamarajanagar, Raichur, Vijayapura, Tumkur and Chikkamagaluru in selected 931 micro-watersheds covering 446954ha.

KSRSAC has provided a seamless cadastral database, geo-referenced satellite imagery of LISS IV + Cartosat-I merged LISS-III data, Base maps, and LU/LC maps to the project partners for the 931 micro-watersheds in the eleven selected districts. Also, this Centre has supplied Synthetic Aperture RADAR (SAR) Data from RISAT-I and RADARSAT for 14 micro-watersheds identified for soil moisture studies.
